HOW TO UNDISTURB BIRTH
Checklist for pregnant women, partners and doulas
Do you want an autonomous, natural birth? Then you also want an undisturbed birth. Because the two things go hand in hand.
Your body instinctively knows how to birth a baby. Birth usually simply works if you let it be. Because then it can unfold its naturalness.
In this blog post you will find a checklist to prepare for your natural birth:
What factors can you and your birth attendants pay attention to in order to get a lot closer to your vision of a natural birth?
FOR THE MOTHER
-
Take responsibility for your health, healing, and wholeness every day of your life (ideally not just during pregnancy)
-
Take good care of yourself during pregnancy, focusing on lowering stress and nourishing yourself with good food, adequate rest, and regular movement.
-
Incorporate centering activities like time in nature, yoga and dance into your daily life.
-
Work with your wounds, fears, blocks and beliefs.
-
Practice living instinctively and listening to your intuition.
-
Choose a care provider that has the same birth philosophy as you.
-
Stand up for yourself, share your needs and desires, and practice trusting your inner voice.
-
It is important that the people present trust your innate birthing abilities and are willing to fully support and honor you.
-
Consider having an advocate at a hospital birth; ideally your own private midwife or doula, who can help protect your birthing space and also support your partner, if present.
FOR THE PARTNER AND BIRTH ATTENDANT
-
Pre-birth: Work through your fears and beliefs so that you can be present during birth in a free and unbiased way.
-
When the birth starts, provide an atmosphere in which the birthing woman feels private, safe, unobserved, and free to follow her own instincts.
-
Reduce neocortical (higher brain) stimulation by keeping lighting and sounds low and words to a minimum.
-
Cover the clock and all other technological devices.
-
Avoid interventions unless they are absolutely necessary: obvious observations, checks, exams, medications and, of course, cesarean sections.
-
Do not talk to the birthing woman unless it is absolutely necessary.
DIRECTLY AFTER BIRTH
-
Do not separate mother and child under any circumstances, even in the event of an emergency
-
Make sure that the umbilical cord is fully drained
-
Even now, keep the lighting low and the room very warm (as it was before the birth).
-
Make sure the atmosphere is calm and relaxed for both mother and baby.
-
Encourage immediate and uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby (weighing, measuring, bathing and washing are unnecessary at this time) and natural breastfeeding soon after birth, ideally the baby will find the nipple and latch on without being disturbed.
